Aspects of Smart24 and its configuration can be remotely managed or queried from the Grid, when you are connected to the internet.
The idea here is to help automate or control the way Smart24 needs to be configured, or to turn on and off certain features of Smart24 in order to help you stay safe at certain times.
In detail, this is achieved by the Grid sending your app a special 'Settings Code' which you can see via the Info section of the Side Menu.
Currently, for a Grid user to prepare a specific Settings Code, there is a manual process needed for which Track24 support can assist.
How do I know when remote management occurs?
You'll notice notifications on your phone when any remote management event occurs, as long as Notifications are enabled on your phone.
- iPhone: Remote Management is one of the features that requires 'Background App Refresh' in Smart24 Permissions to be switched on (Background App Refresh is automatically switched off in Low Power Mode).
- Android: Some Android phones have a 'Restrict Background Data' setting which, if switched on and the phone is not connected to wifi, will prevent Remote Management working.
What happens if I am not connected to the internet when Remote Management occurs?
As soon as you connect to the internet you'll receive the Remote Management notifications, and the Remote Management of your app will occur.
What happens if Smart24 is not running when Remote Management occurs?
- iPhone: You will still receive a notification ('Settings Command'). The best practice is to tap or swipe the notification to open Smart24 and have the new settings applied.
- Android: You will receive a notification ('SMART24 is OFF'). Tapping on this notification will open Smart24, but the new settings won't be applied. So the current best practice is to follow up with your monitoring team via Messaging. Our team at Track24 is aware of this difference with the iPhone version and are working to improve this.
